Kawerau Container Terminal (KCT)
The KCT will greatly enhance the exporting capabilities of businesses in the area.
The container terminal will allow businesses to store produce for export a lot closer to home and be transported to the Port of Tauranga by rail. This will reduce the strain on the road transport/roading infrastructure.
The terminal is set to be located in Kawerau’s industrial zone to allow ease of access for businesses.
Government Climate Change Policy
Climate change has impacted on industrial businesses, and government policies will increasingly require tighter emission regulations and cleaner operations.
With the New Zealand government looking into reducing the country’s carbon footprint, industry can expect new policy guidelines in the future. The Climate Change Response Act is being updated to support the implementation of New Zealand’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement.
In future, operating a business will mean using renewable resources and reducing waste dispelled into the environment.
Government Covid Response
The New Zealand government has financially supported businesses through the lockdown periods and have been re-focusing efforts on maintaining the country’s workforce while the borders remain restricted. ISK works with employers and the relevant government agencies to develop and retain staff. Keeping the businesses operating at maximum capacity throughout the period of uncertainty.
By focusing on attracting local employees, businesses in Kawerau are investing in their future workforce and not relying on employing foreign staff to mitigate the risk of border restrictions.
